I hated English as a subject in school.
Shakespeare was incredibly boring to me and I struggled to keep my eyes open while the teacher would drone on about Othello.
Writing essays was an equally painful task.
We were just given a bunch of topics and expected to create 500-word works of art from them without being taught the features of the different writing styles. Yes, it sucked.
Fast forward, many years later, I had the pleasure of working with a teacher who made writing stories exciting for her 10-year-old students.
In her classroom, I learned the styles of writing and how to make any piece of writing captivating.
It was there, that I discovered, that I could actually paint pictures with my words.
This is not to say that I stayed away from the written word throughout my younger years.
I absolutely loved reading as a child and excitement would build up in me as we headed to our weekly trip to the library.
While other kids found it painful to sit quietly and read for 30 minutes, I had already jumped into the pages of a new adventure.
My love for reading took a pause right there in middle school.
I rediscovered my love for reading ten years ago when I picked up Sophie Kinsella’s “The Undomestic Goddess”.
The familiar euphoria I felt with reading returned and I discovered my love for romantic comedy too.
After reading many of her books, I was so inspired to try my hand at it. I felt like her mind worked very similarly to mine and I thought it would be a fun project to work on.
But, I didn’t have a story to tell, let alone a place to start.
And so this is what my blog is about.
A starting place, a place of rediscovery of an old passion, or a place to discover a new one.
I’m taking you on my journey as I document the process of writing my first book.
